    Ease of operation

     

    The backbone of a joinery workshop is its sawbench. It should be powerful, accurate, reliable and simple and safe to operate. The Sedgwick range of saws are designed with this in mind, and offer outstanding value for money. Their strength is in their construction, precision engineering, and our insistence on using only the best quality components.

     

    Versatility

     

    The rip fence is aluminium section, allowing for two working positions (ripping and angled ripping) and for movement fore and aft in relation to the sawblade to suit different operations. It is fixed to a heavy duty cast iron mounting bracket for rigidity, and has integral micro adjustment. The assembly runs on a nylon roller, gliding easily across the beds, and is supported by a 30/40mm diameter solid steel bar for rigidity. Standard on the TA315 (optional on the larger saws) is the 620mm Cross Cut Table. Designed for cutting mitres and compound angles, end trimming, squaring, dividing and trimming, this table is again cast iron, and is supported on the RHS by precision ground, case hardened bearing rollers running on a 40mm diameter solid steel bar, and on the LHS by a cast jib. The fence is aluminium section and features a telescopic arm, a flip over stop, and a quadrant scale (90o - 45o).

     

    Construction

     

    A large cast iron table mounted on a heavy duty steel cabinet provides maximum timber support and a stable and accurate base for anchoring the spindle, rise and fall, and tilt mechanisms. The spindle is powered by an industrial motor via a triple belt drive, and features large diameter saw flanges for blade stability. It runs in sealed for life bearings mounted in a cast iron housing, and requires only minimal maintenance. Rise and fall and tilt mechanisms are square thread screws operated by handwheels at the front and side of the machines. Both are easily accessible.

A heavy duty sawbench suitable for use in sawmills, timber frame manufacturing and general joinery, because of the robust construction of the machine it is able to perform heavy duty tasks in continuous use in all branches of the woodworking industry.

Multi-Rip Saw KY MRS300A

 

A heavy duty multi-rip saw with cast iron frame. Suitable for ripping solid wood - both hardwood and softwood.

 

The feed chain track is manufactured from hard wearing cast iron and high grade precision connecting pins.

 

As standard the machine is fitted with:

  • 3 rows of anti-kick back fingers and also
  • A safety limit switch to prevent over-wide work pieces from damaging the side cover.
  • A central lubrication system ensures permanent lubrication between the feed chain and guideways.
  • In the event of lack of lubrication oil the machine is equipped with a warning light and the feed track stops automatically until oil is topped up). There is power rise and fall to the top pressure unit which has 4 rollers.

Cameron Rip Saw, Rip & skew Optimisation

 

 

Comprising of a heavy duty model MRS with either 1 moving or 2 moving blades and fixed blade multi rip saw linked to a SKEW infeed automatic feeding and timber rip optimisation system.

 

As standard the saw is equipped with:

  • 50 hp main motor with electric power rise / fall of the saw blade and top pressure unit.
  • In addition it has variable feed to the feed chain which also has polyurethane inserts.
  • A powered outfeed roller.
  • For board alignment and optimisation the machine is fitted with overhead laser lights.
  • The laser positioning for the moving blade(s) / board alignment / feeding is all controlled from the SKEW via its software and communication package linked to the saw.
  • The SKEW itself can handle boards up to 4.9m (16ft) in length. It is fitted with 16 x width laser scanners each at 300mm spacing which allows the width of the board to be accurately scanned thus giving the best possibility to achieve the maximum yield.

 

The general method of operation is:

  1. The operator loads the board on to the cross chains which then transports it past the laser scanners that measure the boards width.
  2. The moving fence (a unique feature) then accurately positions the board under the laser lights to present the operator with best optimum rip combination based on the size and shape of the board.
  3. The operator then selects the process button to feed / cut the board. He does however have a number of options to manually adjust the laser positions if required or skip to next best cutting solution the software has given.

 

Another added advantage of this system is that the operator stands at the side of the saw not directly in front of the feeding area thus eliminating the danger of 'sliver' kick backs.

 

The Cameron 'Optirip' software not only optimises the board width to give the best ripping combinations, it also has a number of other important features such as tallying the timber infeed / outfeed, calculates the most profitable rip combination based £ value, downloading of customer orders, production reports and the option to rip for maximum yield or for a required amount.

 

Programming can be done either at the machine on the touch screen control panel or alternatively in the office with the cutting data being transferred by USB pen or via network cable.

 

Overall some of the main advantages of this system include a 7 to 10% increase in yield when compared to hand feeding, extremely accurate positioning of the boards (no yield loss due to misalignment) and increased operator safety and increased productivity.

 

On request the SKEW can be supplied to fit existing multirip saws.
